How to permanently block a number on Android

Block a number on Android in seconds: native method, via the Phone app, carrier settings and recommended third-party apps.

Endlessly receiving calls from the same unwanted number is exhausting. On Android, there are several ways to block a number permanently — directly from the Phone app, through system settings, or via your carrier's tools. This comprehensive guide walks through each method step by step, whatever your Android model.

Method 1: block from call history

This is the fastest method. Open the Phone app, go to the Recents tab and locate the call from the number you want to block. Long-press the number (or tap the three dots next to it), then select Block / Report as spam. Confirm the action. The number is immediately blocked: incoming calls, SMS and MMS from that contact will be silently rejected.

Method 2: block from Phone app settings

To block a number not in your call history, open the Phone app, tap the three-dot menu in the top right, go to Settings, then select Blocked numbers. Tap Add a number, enter it and confirm. This is useful for blocking numbers you found suspicious on TelCheck before they even call you.

Method 3: enable Google's built-in spam filter

On recent Android phones using the Google Phone app, a built-in spam filter analyses incoming calls in real time. Open Phone → Settings → Caller ID and spam, then enable Filter spam calls. You can also turn on Automatically reject spam calls for complete hands-free blocking.

Method 4: block via your carrier

Orange, SFR, Bouygues Telecom and Free all offer network-level call blocking from their online customer area or mobile app — effective against call centres that rotate numbers frequently.

When numbers keep changing: Bloctel and TelCheck

If a campaign rotates numbers with every call, per-number blocking is insufficient. Register on Bloctel (bloctel.gouv.fr) to reduce lawful commercial calls legally. Report each number on TelCheck to help the community identify patterns, and on Signal Conso (signalconso.gouv.fr) to trigger administrative enforcement.
