How to use TelCheck to check a phone number

Complete TelCheck guide: search bar, score 1-9, community reports, submitting a comment, risk badge, related numbers and embeddable widget.

TelCheck is a free service that lets anyone check the reputation of a phone number in France before answering or calling back. It aggregates TelCheck community reports, computes a reputation score, and displays comments left by other users who received the same calls. This guide explains how to use every feature.

Searching for a phone number

Visit telcheck.fr and enter the number in the central search bar — national format (0612345678) or international (+33612345678). TelCheck normalises the number automatically and displays the reputation page.

Understanding the reputation score

The score ranges from 1 to 9. Scores 1–4 indicate a trustworthy or neutral number (legitimate customer service, doctor, government body). Scores 5–6 are neutral with few or mixed reports. Scores 7–9 flag a suspicious number associated with canvassing, scams or robocalls. The coloured risk badge (green, orange, red) summarises the trust level at a glance.

Reading TelCheck community reports and submitting your own

Below the score, TelCheck displays categorised community reports: spam, scam, telemarketing, survey, debt collection, legitimate service, or other. User comments provide detail on message content, claimed caller identity and typical call times. To add your own: click Report this number, choose the category, write a brief description and submit. Your report is immediately visible to the entire TelCheck community — no account needed.

Related numbers, the embed widget and API

Some pages show a related numbers section grouping nearby numbers with similar behaviour — useful for spotting campaigns using consecutive number ranges. Webmasters can embed a TelCheck widget via an iframe at https://telcheck.fr/embed/{number}, or query scores programmatically via the API at /api/phone/{number}. Both are free for low-volume use.
